According to the statistics accumulated by Huai'an StarShell Textile over the years, when winter comes, many hotel linen purchasers tend to buy down hotel bedding products. However, there is a wide variety of down products on the market. How can hotel linen purchasers identify and select high-quality products?

Huai'an StarShell Textile reminds you that the identification of down products should follow the following seven methods.

  1. Check: Verify Quality by Examining Labels

Check the product labels and confirm two core pieces of information: first, whether the down content meets your requirements; second, whether the labels indicate official brand, manufacturer and other qualification information, so as to avoid purchasing three-no products (products without brand, manufacturer and quality certification).

  2. Press: Judge Fillings by Testing Resilience

Lay the down product flat and let it stand for 3 minutes to observe its resilience. If it can spring back quickly and regain its fluffy state, it indicates that the filling is of good quality. If it rebounds slowly or even collapses and fails to recover, the filling is most likely low-quality materials such as chicken feathers or long feather chips, rather than genuine down.

  3. Touch: Distinguish Quality by Feeling Texture

Gently knead the product to feel the state of the internal filling. High-quality down feels soft and fluffy without any obvious hard particles. If it feels soft but has poor resilience, it is mostly made of softened feather chips. If you can feel short, thick and hard feather shafts, it means the filling is down powder fragments, and such products have lost their usability.

  4. Pat: Check Purity by Looking for Dust

Pat the down product vigorously and observe whether any dust comes out. A high-quality product will not release any dust. If dust drifts out, it indicates that the filling is crushed feathers, which have poor warmth retention and safety and are not recommended for purchase.

  5. Rub: Test Down-proof Property by Rubbing the Fabric

Rub the surface of the product repeatedly with both hands to check if any down filaments come out. If down filaments seep out, it means the fabric has not undergone down-proof treatment and is not a special down-proof fabric, which will easily cause down leakage during use.

  6. Smell: Judge Cleanliness by Detecting Odors

Bring the product close to your nose and take a deep breath, comparing its smell with that of ordinary fabrics. High-quality down products have undergone strict cleaning and disinfection and have no obvious peculiar smell. If you smell pungent, fishy or muttony odors, it indicates that the filling does not meet the standards and should not be purchased.

  7. Weigh: Evaluate Loft by Comparing Weight and Volume

Lift the product to feel its weight while observing its volume. The best down products are light in weight and fluffy in volume. Under the same weight, the volume of down with 30% down content should be about twice that of cotton; for down with over 70% down content, the volume needs to be more than twice that of cotton.
